Encouraging the CAT in Your Group
By Paul | March 20, 2008
The 3 main outcomes in your small group are Community in Christ, Action for Christ, and Transformation into Christlikeness. Here are some ways (from a recent small group focus group) for prioritizing each:
Encouraging Community:
- Working/serving together on a group member’s project
- Social/playing together
- Camping this spring/summer
- Family nights
- Common passion to rally around
- Hurts to ministry to/needs to meet
- Retreat
- Sub-grouping parts of your meeting (to allow more sharing), especially when your group gets large
Encouraging action:
- Sharefest
- Ministry to families
- Ministry to schools
- Serving in the same ministry in Bethel
- Missions focus: adopting a missionary; going on a short-term missions trip
- Ministry to troops
- Prayerwalks
Encouraging Transformation:
- Raising up a new leader and a new assistant leader
- Following up with people’s Bible reading programs
- Running after the church’s thematic goal: this year: pursuing a deeper relationship with Jesus
- Delegation of group jobs to members
- Transparency in sharing
- Accountability/spiritual partners
- Communion
- Balanced curriculum plan (Bible study, topical study, spiritual growth study)
- Spiritual health assessment
