What’s News Around Bethel This Summer
By Paul | August 15, 2007
Praising God for What He’s done in the past month:
- Vacation Bible School under the direction of Teri Pearson, served over 200 kids, engaged a whole slew of volunteers, and was a great outreach to unchurched kids who came with their friends.
- Bethel’s first Big Nite Out of dinner, dessert, and improv comedy packed out the fellowship hall with close to 300 people looking to connect and enjoy some wholesome entertainment by Ryan Bennett’s hilarious Bethel drama troupe.
- Forty-five children enjoyed a Bethel outreach to Rowena Chess families during a summer cheerleading/soccer sports camp in Pasco. Upward Soccer launched its 3rd year last week with over 270 children, under Kent Ladendorf’s leadership. This ministry has touched so many people in the community thus far.
- Over 50 Bethel leaders headed to Spokane last week to watch Willow Creek’s annual Leadership Summit via simulcast. Pastor Dave’s main takeaways came from a seminar by Marcus Buckingham about finding your strengths (not just what you are good at) and focusing on them. A practical activity for leaders is going through your week making a list of what you love and what you loathe to do, to determine your passions vs what drains energy from you.
Upcoming:
- John Stone will be the Student Ministries Director for the year ahead (encapsulating both MS and HS youth). Sky Cady is the candidate for his assistant.
- Kelli Templeton, thematic goal chair, reminds us all to pray for the 4-week sermon series that gets introduced on 9/9 and begins on 9/16, which is unified further by a small group study that corresponds with the messages by Pastor Dave.
- Paul Casey is leading a team that is planning the annual Leadership Community Experience for all Bethel leaders in any capacity, on Sept 14 and 15. The theme is Deeper, and a way to get all leaders on board with Becoming a Divemaster/Guide to Pursuing Jesus. Special speaker is Art Azurdia from Western Seminary.
- The new wing is just about completed!
And to maximize your Bible reading plan, Pastor Dave encourages us to dig into the Scriptures for gems below the surface. Read along until something grabs you, then dig, using methods like: word searches in Bible Gateway, cross-referencing, meditating/thinking it out, or reflection saturation on one chapter or passage for weeks at a time.
