How’s Your Communication Lately?

open-mouth.jpgLast year the Bethel staff culminated a handful of Biblical communication principles, in order to keep them in the forefront of our minds on the staff team and how we deal with one another. Thought we’d pass them on to you, too, for your meditation in your quiet time.

Biblical Principles of Communication

Proverbs 12:18 There is one who speaks rashly like the thrusts of a sword, but the tongue of the wise heals.

Proverbs 18:13 He who answers before listening-that is his folly and his shame.

Proverbs 15:1 A gentle answer turns away wrath but a harsh word stirs up anger.

Proverbs 15:28 The heart of the righteous weighs its answers but the mouth of the wicked gushes evil.

2 Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teaching in accordance to their own desires.

James 1:19 Everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger.

Galatians 2:11 (Be a truth teller) When Peter came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face because he was clearly in the wrong.

Ephesians 4:2 (Be a grace giver) Bear with one another in love.

Philippians 4:8 Finally my brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, if anything is excellent or praiseworthy think about such things. Also communicate in this way.

1 Corinthians 2:4-5 Our words should be Spirit-led and not simply from the flesh.

Ephesians 5:11-13 And do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them, for it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret. But all things become visible when they are exposed to light, for everything that becomes visible is light.

Ephesians 4:29 What is this person’s need in the moment? What is good for edification?

Proverbs 10:19 When there are many words, transgression is unavoidable. But he who retrains his lips is wise.

James 4:11 Do not speak against one another.

Philippians 2:14 Do everything without complaining or arguing.

Acts 17:21 All the Athenians and the foreigners who lived there spent their time doing nothing but talking and listening to the latest ideas.

Ephesians 4:15 Speaking the truth in love…

Ephesians 4:29 Do not let any unwholesome talk…but what is helping to build up one another.

I John 1:5 This is the message we have heard from Him and declare to you.

Ecclesiastes 5:3 …a voice of a fool through many words (Proverbs 18:13)

Colossians 4:6 Let your speech always be with grace seasoned as it were with salt.

II Timothy 4:2 Preach the word in and out of season, reprove, rebuke and exhort.

I John 3:18 Let us not love in word or in tongue; but in deed and in truth.

Ephesians 4:32 We must forgive one another (whether or not forgiveness has be requested of us) for mistakes, oversights and offenses against us.
